The starting point of ‘Cubby Hole (PL: Schowanko)’ audiovisual installation is the story of the book Pan Samochodzik i Wyspa Sobieszewska. Its leitmotiv, the search for the Gauleiter of Gdansk/Albert Forster’s treasure, evokes not only the carefree summer time spent on playtime, but also encourages to ponder the to historic function of the Sobieszewo Island and the Forster’s Lodge, which was once the summer resort of the so called Pomerania’s Hangman.
The implementation of the installation relied on a bit ironic contrast of the nostalgic memories of childhood fun to the dark, yet not literal, horrors of war. What is the most precious treasure in the face of disaster? We invite you to seek!
Photo Romania PL OFF was an additional event of Photo Romania Festival 2014 focused on alternative/experimental/independent scene, presenting artists from Poland.
PhR OFF had shown a different face of art, the one that usually is not so visible and commercial, however, can also be very meaningfull as it deals with more sensitive or controversial issues. We believe that works presented here somehow represent condition of contemporary polish art combining different approaches toward photography with variety of styles and influences.
On PhR PL OFF you may see works of Agata Kalinowska, Eisberg, Joanna Ziajka, Krystian Lipiec, Maciej Kułakowski, Marta Cieślikowska, Mateusz Palka, Ola Walków, Olga Ozierańska, Piotr Pytel, Oliwia Misztur, Pamela Granatowski, Tomasz Piech, Ola Matyas and Kamil Szczepaniak.
The aim of the smacznego! Foundation (pl for ‘tasty!’) is to investigate sidetracks and verges of culture. This is often the place where most interesting phenomena are hidden along with their creators, whose firm noncomformism condemns them for both social and artistic exclusion. Our foundation is commited to the task of revealing at least some of the brave ideas of people, for whom so-called ‘artistic community’ is an artificial and too narrow-minded a milieu. Our interests consist primarily of visual arts and music. An important facet of our activities is also an attempt to form social awareness of marginalized artistic phenomena of Polish art. But we are also open to co-operate with artists beyond boundaries.
